 Welcome Aboard

 Welcome to Guam,

Congratulations on your assignment to USCGC HICKORY (WLB 212)! HICKORY’S missions include aids to navigation (ATON), Law Enforcement (LE), and Search and Rescue (SAR)! HICKORY’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) spans the Northern Mariana Islands with unique port calls throughout the Pacific. You should look forward to rewarding work and memorable adventures.

*HICKORY is currently en route from the CG YARD, in Baltimore, Maryland to our homeport in Santa Rita, Guam. Please contact your sponsor for additional details regarding HICKORY’s status and how that will impact your reporting-in date.*

1.    Sponsor/Contact Information: We look forward to your arrival and are committed to helping your transfer go as smoothly as possible. Please contact your primary sponsor as soon as possible to discuss approval of your reporting date. YN2 Rodriguez-Vazquez (Antonio.a.rodriguez-vazquez@uscg.mil / (727) 454-9928) is the administration and personnel Yeoman for HICKORY. The HICKORY OOD Phone Number is (619) 606-4760. Please feel free to reach out with any admin related questions or concerns.
2.    Ombudsman: The Unit Ombudsman is Mrs. Jess Coleman. She can be reached (301) 318-7705 and/or emailed at cgchickoryombudsman@gmail.com. You are encouraged to call the Ombudsman if you have any questions about the transition that cannot be answered by your sponsor.
3.    Government Travel Charge Card (GTCC): This is how you will pay for your flight. Members are required to have a Government Travel Charge Card. If you do not have a GTCC, upon receipt of orders, you must apply for one immediately. Prior to departing your current unit ensure you have received your GTCC, and that your limit is raised to at least $10,000. Use of the GTCC is authorized to cover expenses directly related to Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) in conjunction with OCONUS travel. If you qualify for TLA and are a GTCC holder, you may use your card to pay for hotels and meals. Without a GTCC, payment for TLA services will be difficult and could create a financial burden.
4.    Housing: Navy Housing is available on Naval Base Guam (where CG Base Guam/HICKORY are located) and is required for personnel with dependents. Note that Navy Housing averages between 1,100 and 1,200 square feet and there are no storage facilities available on Guam. You will be authorized multiple methods of arranging your household goods shipment to include storage in vicinity of your current duty station. You can contact Navy Housing using this website: Navy Housing - NAVBASE Guam. If you would like to seek a waiver from mandatory assignment to government quarters, contact your sponsor for more details.

a.    Single personnel E-4 and below, without dependents, are required to reside at the barracks in Navy Unaccompanied Housing (UH), if available. Contact the UH manager, Rose Sharon Indalecio Blend, via email RoseSharon.I.Blend@uscg.mil or work phone: (671) 355-4894 for assignment priority and release from mandatory quarters if authorized. Single personnel E-5 and above, without dependents, will not be assigned to UH and will be authorized to reside in the local economy
b.    Temporary Housing: All members who are not moving into the barracks are required to make reservations through the visitor's quarters (Navy Gateway Inn and Suites) for Temporary Lodging accommodations or obtain a Certificate of Non-Availability prior to making hotel reservations. Payment of TLA is only authorized when government quarters are not available. Contact your sponsor and/or the Housing Office with questions.

5.    Vehicle Shipment: Two (2) POV is authorized. The cost of additional vehicles shipped will be the responsibility of the member. Members should also note that any vehicles that are purchased, either new or used, within 90 days of shipment to Guam are subject to a 4% inport fee. Contact your sponsor if you have additional questions about car shipment procedures.
6.    Medical: Medical facilities are provided on board Naval Base Guam and off base at the Guam naval hospital. These facilities are adequate for general medical care. Ensure you have an updated medical record and request additional prescriptions if possible while moving between pharmacies.
7.    Dependent Passports: All dependents should have a passport. Eligible family members of personnel assigned to Guam are authorized a no-fee passport. This must be obtained prior to departure from current unit.
8.    Reporting Procedures: Call your sponsor to discuss your report date and reporting procedures as soon as possible. Member MUST BRING A COPY of their DD1747 housing release form and your CG1300 Overseas Screening for your check in appointment.
