Captain Baldueza assumed Deputy Commander of Sector San Francisco in May 2021. As Deputy, he assists the Sector Commander with leading over 850 Active and Reserve Coast Guardsmen and women operating four Cutters, seven Search and Rescue Stations, an Aids to Navigation Team, a Vessel Traffic Service, and a Marine Safety Detachment in addition to 1100+ Coast Guard Auxiliarists. His area of responsibility spans from the Oregon border to the San Luis Obispo County line as well as much of Nevada, Utah, and parts of Wyoming, and includes over 2,500 miles of shoreline within the San Francisco Bay and its tributaries.
Duties and responsibilities of Sector San Francisco include Captain of the Port, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator.
Prior to Sector San Francisco, Captain Baldueza was the Response Department Head at Sector Houston-Galveston where he oversaw ports, waterways, and coastal security, maritime law enforcement, living marine resources, search and rescue, and marine environmental response missions across Southeast Texas to Southwest Louisiana. From 2015 to 2018, he was the Training Division Chief at Special Missions Training Center in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina managing the design, development, and delivery of 13 "C" schools for the Coast Guard’s Deployable Specialized, Tactical Boat, and Expeditionary Forces. Prior to that, he served as Commanding Officer of Maritime Safety and Security Team (MSST) New York leading an 80-person team in conducting maritime security, anti-terrorism/force protection operations and law enforcement missions across the nation and overseas.
His previous assignments also include tours as a Performance Analyst and Training Manager at Force Readiness Command in Washington, D.C.; Operations Officer of MSST Seattle in Seattle, Washington; Law Enforcement Duty Officer at the Eleventh Coast Guard District in Alameda, California; and Deck Watch Officer aboard the CGC MORGENTHAU when its homeport was in Alameda, California.
Captain Baldueza’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and many other unit and team awards which he tributes to the remarkable Coast Guard women and men that he has had the honor to serve with.
A 1999 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Research and in 2008, earned his Master of Arts Degree in Educational Technology from San Diego State University in California. He also completed his Joint Professional Military Education through the U.S. Naval War College in 2017.
Captain Baldueza is married to the former Margarita Maldonado of Modesto, California and they have three kids: Oona Kaéla, Nika Élani, and Koah Ozias. Also noteworthy, his family has 80+ years and counting of honorable Coast Guard service. His father, Jaime Baldueza Sr., is a retired Subsistence Specialist Chief Petty Officer. His eldest brother, Joseph Joel Baldueza, is a retired Electronics Technician Chief Petty Officer and his older brother, Jaime Baldueza Jr., is an active duty Electronics Chief Warrant Officer stationed at Personnel Service Center’s Enlisted Personnel Management Division.
