Commander John B. McWhite

Commander McWhite reported aboard USCGC MELLON (WHEC 717) after serving on the Pacific Area Commander’s Staff, as the Maritime Homeland Security and Maritime Homeland Defense program manager in Alameda, California.

Commander McWhite is from Chandler, Arizona and is a 2002 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Management. Additionally, he earned a Master’s of Military Arts and Science degree in 2017 from the United States Army Command and General Staff College in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Commander McWhite has previously served at sea, including tours as Executive Officer USCGC ALERT (WMEC 630) in Astoria, Oregon, Operations Officer USCGC DALLAS (WHEC 716) in Charleston, South Carolina, Officer In Charge Pacific Tactical Law Enforcement Teams (TACLET) 101 & 106 in San Diego, California and Deck Watch Officer and First Lieutenant aboard USCGC DAUNTLESS (WMEC 624) in Galveston, Texas.

Commander McWhite’s assignments ashore include serving as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander Atlantic Area, in Portsmouth Virginia and as a Search and Rescue Coordinator for the Seventeenth Coast Guard District in Juneau, Alaska.

Commander McWhite is married to the former Jaclyn Alonzo and they are the proud parents of two children, Denzel (age 12) and Hadley (age 7).
