LT Sarah E. Sorensen
Engineer Officer (EO)

 

Bio: LT Sarah Sorensen has been stationed aboard ALEX HALEY since July of 2021. As the Engineer Officer, she provides a single point of accountability for the readiness and maintenance of all equipment, hull integrity, and emergency response on board. Her previous tours include serving afloat as a student engineer on board CGC LEGARE (WMEC 912) based out of Portsmouth, VA and ashore as a port engineer for the Coast Guard's Medium Endurance Cutters in the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Lakewood, WA, LT Sorensen attended and graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 2016 where she earned a Bachelor's of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering and played 4 years of softball. In her free time, she loves to be active and spend quality time with her family and friends. She is proud to be an Engineer on the Bulldog of the Bering!

LT Joshua E. Moan
Operations Officer (OPS)

 

Bio: Lieutenant Joshua Moan reported to USCGC ALEX HALEY (WMEC 39) in July 2020, where he currently serves as the Operations Officer. He provides oversight and is responsible for the planning and execution of all operations across several mission areas: Law Enforcement, Living Marine Resources, Search and Rescue, and Maritime Homeland Security. LT Moan previously served as the Ports, Waterways, and Coastal Security (PWCS) Officer at the Thirteenth Coast Guard District in Seattle, Washington, and as a Deck Watch Officer on USCGC MELLON (WHEC 717) in Seattle, WA.

Originally from Port Angeles, Washington, LT Moan is a 2015 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marine and Environmental Science.

LTJG Christopher B. Jacques
1st Lieutenant (1LT)

 

Bio: LTJG Jaques reported aboard ALEX HALEY in July 2020 for his first tour after graduating with a commission from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in May 2020. As 1st Lieutenant, he is responsible for directing all deck evolutions involved in the execution of the cutter’s Search and Rescue and Law Enforcement missions in the Bering Sea. He also ensures the safety of the crewmembers and Deck Department, many of whom are serving at their first CG unit. He has spent time aboard CGC EAGLE (WIX 327), CGC DAUNTLESS (WMEC 624), and E/V NAUTILUS for an internship in ocean exploration.

Hailing from Harwich, MA, LTJG Jaques earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine and Environmental Sciences with focus in Biological and Physical Oceanography from USCGA as well as a 100-Ton Master’s License.

CWO2 Benjamin Murray
Support Officer (SUPPO)

 

Bio: Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) Benjamin Murray reported to ALEX HALEY in June 2021. As the Supply Officer, he manages the cutter’s budget, acquisition, and movement of personnel to ensure the cutter is fully equipped and ready for mission execution. He also coordinates port visits and the delivery of fuel, subsistence items, and critical parts in the Coast Guard's most remote and logistically challenging area of responsibility.

CWO Murray was born in Charlotte, N.C.  He enlisted into the Coast Guard in September of 2004. CWO Murray’s previous assignments include:

-Duty Cook CGC HARRIET LANE, Portsmouth, VA; Special Command Aide, Atlantic Area Commander, Portsmouth, VA; Special Command Aide/Chef, Secretary of Homeland Security Executive Dining Facility, Washington, DC; IDFSO CGC Yellowfin, Charleston, SC. Military Aide/Chef, President of the United States, The White House, Washington, DC; Culinary Specialist Instructor, CS “A” School, Petaluma, CA; Director of Secretary of Homeland Security Executive Dining Facility, DHS HQ, Washington, DC.

CWO Murray is currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Liberty University, and holds ProChef Certifications from CIA New York. CWO Murray is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy Class 227.
